Formal Proposal For Documentary

Title: Celebrity Role Models - as it sums up what the documentary is about. The title is straight to the point and simple but most people like to watch programmes on Celebrities.
Our tagline is - Who do you want to be like?

Topic of documentary
:
The programme is all about celebrity role models and will be a exploratory/expository documentary and will be informal in style. It explores the reason why people have role models (especially young people) and it also looks into good and bad role models and why people have them. thee topic will be discussed through different peoples perspectives.

Target audience
Our documentary is about celebrity role models, the majority of young people today have role models, therefore our target audience will be aimed at young teens/adults ages 13-20, although anyone with an interest in societal issues or if their role model is being discussed may be interested in watching our documentary.
Our documentary will be addressed to both males and females.
We will interview people of similar ages (both genders) so our target audience can relate to the topics we're discussing.
This is our target audience, because after conducting research we reached the conclusion that older adults don't really have role models anymore that they look up to. We also agreed that younger people have role models as they have a lot to aspire too whilst growing up.

Channel and scheduling: Channel 4, at 9PM (prime time for television for the ages of 13-20). We chose Channel 4 because it appeals directly to our target audience. Channel 4 is also known for showing qwerky and interesting content, and are especially known for showing many different types documentaries on almost anything.

Content: The programme will feature a mix of interviews from young people who actually have role models, psycologists who will explain why people have role models, and a mum who has children that have role models so she has an idea who is good and bad in society (she will give examples of bad role models to contrast with the good ones that the young people are talking about)
It will include an informative voice over - most likely a male to try and sound authoritative - this may work well as most of the interviews will be of females and it should balance the documentary.
It will include a video montage of people showing us their lifestyle and how they relate to their role model. Photographs and stills will be included of the young people, highlighting what their life is like with a role model (merhandise or lifestyle).
We will include lots of songs that relate to the topic and upbeat music within our doucmentary one song we have decided on is Role models by Eminem - but just the chorus as some of the lyrics may not be appropriate for 13 year olds.

Research needed:
Primary: We have asked some potential interviewees if we could use their houses to show off their lifestyle and role model merchandise. The people said they were willing to take part in the documentary. We are in the process of writing a script to use that we will ask our interviewees. We have looked for other places to use for the mise en scene in our documentary as we know this is an important factor to consider when filming.

Secondary: We used the internet to find more about 'why people have role models' to help think of good questions to ask the psychologist. Will will/have used youtube to find some good music to include in our documentary that will be relevant and entertaining. We have looked at other documentaries to see what style and type would be effective for our own. We will research our interviewees role models so we can find good archive footage to include on them
